Site preparation is successful when every following trade can work safely and continuously. Clearing a field is not enough. Water, access, levels, temporary facilities, survey control and environmental restrictions must be converted into a buildable platform that supports piling, structures, cabling and commissioning through changing weather.

Start with water and topography

Review the grading and drainage concept against survey data, soil conditions, catchments and discharge constraints. Uncontrolled runoff can erode rows, undermine roads, flood trenches and stop heavy equipment.

Minimise unnecessary earthworks, preserve required flow paths and phase permanent and temporary drainage so protection exists from the first mobilisation—not only at project completion.

Design access around the construction sequence

Road widths, turning areas, bearing capacity and delivery routes must suit actual vehicles and cranes. Separate heavy deliveries from pedestrian routes where practical and plan how emergency access remains open.

Laydown zones should support inspection and controlled release of structures, modules and electrical equipment without repeated handling or blocking active work fronts.

Protect survey control and interfaces

Establish benchmarks, boundaries, exclusion zones and row controls before production. Every contractor should work from the same approved coordinate system and revision.

Civil levels affect pile reveal, structure geometry, cable depth and inverter foundations. Formal zone handovers prevent one trade from inheriting unclear levels or damaged access.

Plan for weather, restoration and evidence

A weather plan covers pumping, road maintenance, dust, frost or heat measures and the criteria for suspending equipment. Temporary fixes should not create permanent drainage or environmental liabilities.

Inspection records, compaction results, redlines, photos and restoration status make the civil scope auditable and reduce disputes at handover.
